Announcement of the Botswana IFSC Internship Programme Recipients Following the inaugural Botswana IFSC Career Fair, which was held on 18th September 2004 at Gaborone International Convention Centre, 10 successful recipients of the internship programme will be introduced to their host companies at a ceremony on Thursday 21st October 2004 at Falcon Crest Suites commencing 1600 hours. The companies and internship recipients are:
One of the overriding objectives of the Career Fair was to launch an IFSC internship programme such as is practice in countries such as USA and South Africa. This is a programme where private sector and IFSC companies take on qualifying young Batswana for short term learnership programmes for them to gain exposure and experience in the financial services or Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sectors. It is hoped that in subsequent years this programme will grow, thus enabling the private sector and IFSC companies to contribute directly to growing the experience and exposure of young Batswana. This will enable young Batswana’s more effective transition into the workplace. IFSC interns will work in their host companies for varying duration. They will in some cases be taken for permanent employment but there is no obligation by the company to do so. The interns were selected based on the requirements of each company. They will be invited back to next year’s IFSC Career Fair to present on their experiences. The IFSC has also launched a CV database where those interested in getting employment in the financial services sector can post their CVs. The recent Career Fair aimed to showcase employment opportunities in the IFSC companies to students, graduates and professionals in Botswana. An open forum discussion spearheaded by citizen achievers in the financial services industry gave participants insights into different paths to success while skills training sessions shed light into how they can present their CVs and themselves at job interviews and in a work environment.
